At Surmodics Services and Technologies, our mission is to deliver leading coating solutions that enhance medical device performance and support improved surgical procedure outcomes. As a Research and Development Intern, you will work alongside experienced scientists and engineers while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative laboratory environment.
The Research and Development Intern supports the R&D team by conducting testing on medical device coatings, analyzing testing results, and contributing ideas for process improvement. The intern will be supervised by the Director of R&D and Innovation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform coating testing and related measurement activities
- Evaluate test results and identify opportunities for process enhancement
- Assess medical device performance
- Assist with sample builds and testing of designated coatings
- Summarize results in reports and oral presentations
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or a related science field
- Completion of at least sophomore-year coursework
- Minimum GPA of 2.75
- At least two years of college-level chemistry laboratory experience
- Able to work full time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship
- Reliable transportation to and from the work location
- Strong oral and written communication skills as well as high attention to detail
- Must be able to endure the physical demands of the position which include repetitive lifting, standing for long periods of time, and wearing required PPE while demonstrating safe work practices
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
