At Surmodics Services and Technologies, our mission is to deliver leading coating solutions that enhance medical device performance and support improved surgical procedure outcomes. As a Research and Development Intern, you will work alongside experienced scientists and engineers while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative laboratory environment.

The Research and Development Intern supports the R&D team by conducting testing on medical device coatings, analyzing testing results, and contributing ideas for process improvement. The intern will be supervised by the Director of R&D and Innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform coating testing and related measurement activities
Evaluate test results and identify opportunities for process enhancement
Assess medical device performance
Assist with sample builds and testing of designated coatings
Summarize results in reports and oral presentations

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or a related science field
Completion of at least sophomore-year coursework
Minimum GPA of 2.75
At least two years of college-level chemistry laboratory experience
Able to work full time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship
Reliable transportation to and from the work location
Strong oral and written communication skills as well as high attention to detail
Must be able to endure the physical demands of the position which include repetitive lifting, standing for long periods of time, and wearing required PPE while demonstrating safe work practices
Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship
